Time to update our Zihuatanejo flight information for 2026–27, especially for everybody looking to come down to Zihua this winter. I just saw the mayor of Zihua, Liz Tapia, talking about the upcoming season and she said some of the schedules are still being finalized, but this should be pretty close.
A common question we receive is, “What’s the best flight for us to arrive in Zihua?” So let’s get into it.
First, if you haven’t been to the Zihua airport recently, there have been some nice improvements.
The OMA Premium Lounge in the departures area, after security, has been a great addition since it opened a couple years ago. If you have Priority Pass through your credit card, you can get in with your membership. And if you don’t have lounge access, you can actually buy a day pass. Right now OMA says it’s 499 pesos if you buy it online or 600 pesos at the lounge.
They have drinks, snacks, Wi-Fi, charging stations and places to sit and work, so it’s a pretty nice addition to the airport.
And the airport has continued making improvements around the terminal, with more places to eat, shop and grab a drink.
The flight schedule changes dramatically once we get into November and December, when the winter visitors start arriving.
So here are the nonstop flights to Zihuatanejo for the 2026–27 high season.
MEXICO
MEXICO CITY
Aeroméxico and Volaris flying nonstop several times per day year-round between Mexico City’s Benito Juárez Airport and Zihuatanejo.
There is a second airport in Mexico City which also flies to Zihuatanejo called Felipe Ángeles, airport code NLU.
Those direct flights to Felipe Angeles are currently being operated by Viva Aerobus and Mexicana.
GUADALAJARA
Volaris has nonstop service between Guadalajara and Zihua on Mondays and Fridays, and this is a really useful route because Guadalajara is such an important transportation hub in western Mexico. This is the third busiest airport in Mexico. From Guadalajara you can fly direct to about 25 cities in the US, four cities in Canada, and three or four other international destinations in addition to pretty much every airport in Mexico.
QUERÉTARO
Volaris flies to Zihua direct, and there are about eight cities in the US that also fly into Querétaro.
TIJUANA
And finally we have Tijuana. Volaris flies nonstop between Tijuana and Zihuatanejo. It’s a much longer flight — more than three hours — but it gives people in Baja California, San Diego, a direct way to get here without connecting through Mexico City.
So that’s the current Mexican nonstop network.
PUEBLA has been canceled. For the second time in the last three years we had a short period where Puebla was a direct flight. Hopefully if they bring it back a third time it’s here to stay.
Volaris also had a direct flight to MORELIA, but that has recently been canceled.
THE UNITED STATES
HOUSTON
Houston is one of the our main year-round direct flights.
United Airlines flies nonstop between Houston and Zihuatanejo, with one flight per week during the off-season. At the end of October they go to Monday, Thursday and Saturday direct flights.
DALLAS
Dallas is another major route. American Airlines flies nonstop from Dallas-Fort Worth to Zihua. This was the first year in a while where American didn’t offer any low season direct flights. In November direct flights begin, flying Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
PHOENIX
Phoenix is another American Airlines route. It’s seasonal, with winter service on Saturdays starting in November.
LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles is Alaska Airlines.
This one varies throughout the year, with about one flight a week during the off-season and then jumping to four flights per week in November.
SAN FRANCISCO
And San Francisco is back as a seasonal Alaska Airlines route, with direct flights on Saturdays.
CHICAGO
United operates the nonstop Chicago O’Hare to Zihuatanejo flight during the winter season, starting in late December with Saturday flights.
MINNEAPOLIS
Sun Country brings back the seasonal Minneapolis–Zihuatanejo service for the winter, starting in mid-December with 2 to 3 flights per week.
CANADA
CALGARY
This is one of the important Canadian winter routes, with 3 flights per week on WestJet starting in late October.
And if you’ve ever looked at the weather forecast in Calgary in January, you can understand why people might want to come down here.
TORONTO
As of right now Air Canada does not show this as a direct flight. Sorry Toronto friends, but looks like you may be routing through Montreal.
VANCOUVER
Air Canada and WestJet both appear to have once weekly flights starting in November, Thursdays and Fridays.
MONTREAL
And Montreal has seasonal Air Canada service, starting in mid-December, once per week.
This is another weekly winter flight, so the dates matter.
So those are the Canadian cities with nonstop service to Zihuatanejo during the winter season.
When you put everything together, Zihua has a pretty impressive network for a relatively small airport.
We’re talking about direct flights to major cities in the United States and Canada, plus several important Mexican cities.
If you look at the airport in September or October, you’re going to see a much smaller number of flights.
And one thing I really want to point out is that you don’t have to live in one of these cities to make it easy to get to Zihua. I visit Nashville often, and my United flight departs the airport at 6:30am, with a layover in Houston, arriving in Zihua at 11:40am, with about 6 hours total travel time.
And Mexico City is particularly useful because once you get there, you can connect to destinations all over Mexico and internationally.
But that’s one of the things we really like about living in Zihua. A small, safe town but you can easily get anywhere in the world with our airport just 15 minutes away.
And the airport itself continues to grow.
In 2025, the Zihuatanejo airport handled a record 733,612 passengers, which was about a 9 percent increase over 2024.
And the local tourism officials have said 2026 is continuing to show strong passenger numbers as well.

Parkihuni – parkihuni.com.mx – limited destinations, but one example is 450 MXN for the 4 hr trip to Uruapan. And there’s an airport in Uruapan where Volaris flies to TIJ (daily for about 2,000 MXN roundtrip) and LAX (Saturday flights starting at 6,000 MXN roundtrip).
Autovias – autovias.com.mx – examples: 1,000 MXN for 8 hour trip to Guadalajara, or 1,000 MXN and 10 hours to Mexico City.
Futura – futura.com.mx – examples: 1,080 MXN for 9.5 hour trip to Queretaro, or 650 MXN and 5.5 hours to Morelia.
