Airport Information

There are many ways to get to Zihuatanejo from the airport. Unfortunately with the taxi union the airport rates are 250% to 400% higher than a normal taxi ride in town.

Car Rental. If you google “Mexico car rental” it won’t take long before you read a story about someone who had a bad experience. I think the rates are fairly inexpensive, but we’ve never rented here. If you do want to rent a vehicle, there are plenty of options when you arrive at the airport.

Taxi. You can step outside the terminal and jump in to a taxi. The rate increases every 6 months to year, but I believe the current rate is 640 pesos to Zihua, and there is no way to pay less than this.

Van / Suburban. If you have a group of four people and a bit of luggage then there is almost always a suburban of some sort waiting at the airport entrance. For a trip to Zihua you can expect to be charged about 1,400 pesos for transport.

Shuttle. If you don’t mind waiting 5 to 20 minutes, then you can take a shuttle. The cost is around 200 pesos per person. If there are 4 or more people in your group then you’ll be able to jump in to a shuttle and take off fairly quickly.

Airport pick-up. We can arrange for pick-up at the airport for our guests. The cost is around 800 pesos, and your driver will be waiting for you outside as you exit customs.

Taxi Outside the Airport. Taxi at the airport entrance. This is not recommended for anyone coming to Zihua for the first time. If you leave the airport and walk about 1,000 feet away from the airport you will see taxis waiting just beyond the airport’s property. From here you can save 200 to 300 pesos for a taxi into town.

Airport bus at the airport entrance. This is also not recommended for new travelers to Zihua, or anyone with much more than a backpack or carry-on. If you leave the airport’s property you won’t have to wait more than ten minutes for the next bus (more like a van, called a “combi”) to pull up. It will say “Aeropuerto” in large letters on the front. The cost is 18 pesos per person and it will take you all the way into Centro Zihua. From there you can walk or grab a 60 peso taxi to your final destination.
